The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) – Medium-term stream allows skilled workers to work in Australia for up to 4 years, or up to 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders. This stream is designed for employers who cannot find appropriately skilled Australian workers and need to address labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) – Medium-term stream, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible medium and long-term skilled occupations
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field
  • Have a relevant skills assessment if required for your occupation
  • Work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless exempt
  • Meet minimum standards of English language proficiency, unless exempt
  • Be nominated by an approved sponsor
  • Work for your nominating employer
  • Have relevant skills, qualifications, and employment background to perform the occupation
  • Have worked in your nominated occupation or a related field for at least 2 years
  • Have a positive skills assessment if required
  • Meet the health requirement
  • Meet the character requirement
  • Not have contravened ‘paying for visa sponsorship’ legislative provisions
  • Have the required level of English language proficiency
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused
  • Have no debt to the Australian government
  • Sign the Australian values statement
