New Agreement to Ease Visa Regime for Russian and U.S. CitizensTuesday, July 31, 2012
The ratification of an agreement which substantially eases the visa regime for both Russian and U.S. citizens has been signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Under the new agreement, Russian and U.S. citizens are permitted to get three-year multi-entry visas with which they can stay for up to six consecutive months. The new change also removes Russia's requirement of getting a letter of invitation although tourists will still need to show advance accommodation bookings. The U.S. Department of State commented that the agreement would facilitate trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, and in particularl improve tourism for the United States and Russia as well. The new agreement will take effect whenever both countries complete the exchange of notes certifying that preparations for the changes have been done.
