U.S.-Russia visa easing to Take Effect from September 9Thursday, August 30, 2012
The ratification of an agreement which substantially eases the visa regime for both Russian and U.S. citizens will take effect on September 9, according to the U.S. Embassy. The agreement on simplifying the visa program to the USA and Russia was ratified in July by President Vladimir Putin.
Under the new agreement, Russian and U.S. citizens are permitted to get three-year multi-entry visas with which they can stay for up to six consecutive months. The new change also eliminates Russia's requirement of getting a letter of invitation although tourists will still need to show advance accommodation bookings.
The U.S. Department of State commented that easing the laborious and limiting visa system would facilitate trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, and in particularly improve tourism for the United States and Russia as well.
