Changes to U.S. Visa Fees in Oman

According to a recent press release the U.S. will make changes to its visa processing fees in Oman starting from April 13, 2012.

Under the new changes, the visa fee for most non-immigrant visa applications for the U.S. will increase while all immigrant visa processing fees will go down. The increase in non-immigrant visa fees will help to cover the addition and expansion of overseas facilities, as well as additional staff required to meet increased visa demand, according to the press release of the U.S. Embassy in Oman.

Some of changes to non-immigrant visa fees include:

• Tourist, business, transit, crew member, student, exchange visitor, and journalist visas: increase from $140 to $160;
• Petition-based visas (H, L, O, P, Q, and R) increase from $150 to $190;
• Treaty investor and Trader visas decrease from $390 to $270;
• Fiancé (e) visa (K) decreases from $350 USD to $240.

In terms of immigrant visa processing fees, there will be a decrease in all categories as follows:

• Immediate relative and family preference applications decrease from $330 to $230;
• Employment-based applications: decrease from $720.00 to $405.00;
• Other immigrant visa applications: decrease from $305.00 to $220.00;
• Diversity visa applications: decrease from $440.00 to $330.00;
• Determining returning resident status: decrease from $380.00 to $275.00.

"The State Department is required to recover, as far as possible, the cost of processing visas at all its embassies and consulates through the collection of application fees" said the U.S. Embassy in the press release.
