A Teacher exchange program allows teachers to come to the United States to teach full-time in accredited primary and secondary schools for up to three (3) years. The applicant must be a foreign qualified teacher with a minimum of three years teaching experience. The applicant must have satisfied the teaching requirements and standards of the country in which the applicant is currently working as a teacher, and the teaching standards of the US state in which the applicant will be teaching.

TEACHER EXCHANGE VISA (J-1) BASIC REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for an Exchange visa under a Teacher exchange program, the applicant must be a foreign qualified teacher with a minimum of three years teaching experience. The applicant must have satisfied the teaching requirements and standards of the country in which the applicant is currently working as a teacher, and the teaching standards of the US state in which the applicant will be teaching. Before applying for the visa, the applicant must locate a sponsoring organization in the United States, and meet the requirements of the sponsoring organization selected. Finally, applicants may be required to meet certain health and character requirements.


TEACHER EXCHANGE VISA (J-1) ENTITLEMENTS

An Exchange visa holder participating in a Teacher exchange program is entitled to remain in the United States for up to three (3) years provided the applicant continues to teach in an accredited primary or secondary school.

An Exchange visa holder's spouse and unmarried children under 21 years of age may accompany them to the US upon approval of their derivative (J-2) visas. A dependent (spouse or child) may accept employment upon approval of a work authorization application for the duration of their stay in the US. Any dependent, school aged children may attend primary or secondary school in the US for the duration of their stay.
