GREEN CARD LOTTERY TO THE UNITED STATES
DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT VISA PROGRAM TO THE UNITED STATES
The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program allows you to come to the United States as a Permanent Resident.
Once a year, usually in October, the United States conducts a computer-generated random lottery drawing that chooses up to 55,000 applicants for the diversity program where winning entries receive Permanent Residence. Winners are chosen from countries with low rates of immigration. Each year millions of people apply for the program during the registration period. Over 6.4 million entries were received for the 2008 Diversity Visa Lottery. Don’t be late for next year’s draw, plan ahead and apply early!
VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
The United States requires applicants to be a native from the list of eligible countries. As well, you must have either a high school education, or at least two years of qualifying work experience. Applications are submitted electronically during the registration process and no paper entries are accepted. Applicants will also be required to meet certain criminal and medical requirements.
VISA ENTITLEMENTS
As a Permanent Resident you will have most of the rights of a United States Citizen, with few exceptions, including the right to live permanently in the United States, the right to be employed in the United States in any legal work, and the right to vote in some local elections. You are also able to travel freely to and from the United States and sponsor your relatives to immigrate the United Sates. As well, once eligible, you can apply become a U.S. citizen.
