The Business Visitor Visa allows business people to come to the United States temporarily to engage in business activities, such as consulting with business associates, negotiating contracts, attending meetings, conventions, or conferences, serve as a lecturer and researcher, participate in an athletic or professional tournament for prize money and various other activities.

The Business Visitor Visa holder may remain in the US to conduct business for 1 year with 6-month extensions. Applicants must show that they are coming to the US for a specific business purpose, and they have the required intent to leave the US upon completion of their business activity.

BUSINESS VISITORS VISA (B-1) BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the Business Visitors Visa must apply for the visa prior to entry and show that the purpose of their trip is for a business activity that does not involve gainful employment or remuneration from a source within the United States. In addition, applicants must maintain their residence abroad and show proof of binding ties to their home country. Applicants may be required to show sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay. Finally, applicants may be required to meet certain health and character requirements.


BUSINESS VISITORS VISA (B-1) ENTITLEMENTS

Business Visitors Visas allow applicants to remain in the US for a maximum of one year with the possibility of 6-month extensions. The applicant’s spouse and unmarried children under 21 years of age may accompany the applicant to the US upon approval of the relevant visas. In addition, the applicant’s domestic employees and nannies may accompany the applicant to the US upon approval of their own visa and work authorization application.
