AUSTRALIAN FREE TRADE (E-3) VISA

Australians may enter the United States to work in a specialty occupation. A "specialty occupation" is an occupation that requires highly specialized knowledge and at least a Bachelor's degree in the specific field, or its equivalent in work experience.

The applicant must be coming to the United States in response to a job offer in order to work and live temporarily. The visa holder is allowed to bring his or her family to the United States, and they are not required to be citizens of Australia.

AUSTRALIAN FREE TRADE VISA (E-3) BASIC REQUIREMENTS

The Australian Free Trade Visa requires applicants to obtain the visa prior to entry and show that the purpose of their stay is for employment related to their field of study. Basic requirements include that the applicant be able to show that he or she possesses a job in the United States, and the applicant satisfies the required education and/or work experience. Applicants may also be required to meet certain health and character requirements.


AUSTRALIAN FREE TRADE VISA (E-3) ENTITLEMENTS

Under the Australian Free Trade Visa, applicants are allowed to work in the United States for an initial period of 2 years. An extension of stay in the United States may be granted indefinitely in 2-year increments with no limit on the total length of stay.

Spouses and children under the age of 21 who wish to accompany or join the principal visa holder in the United States for the duration of the stay may apply for the relevant visa. Spouses and children of visa holders may study in private or public schools in the United States. Spouses may apply for work authorization if seeking employment for their duration of stay in the United States.
