STUDENT VISA TO THE UNITED STATES

NON-ACADEMIC OR VOCATIONAL STUDENT VISA (M-1) TO THE UNITED STATES

VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

The United States requires students to obtain a Non-academic or Vocational Student Visa prior to entry and show that the purpose of their stay is to study. Basic requirements include proof of acceptance to a U.S. school and proof of sufficient funds to cover the costs of schooling and living expenses. In addition, students must maintain their residence abroad and show proof of binding ties to insure their return home. Students may also be required to meet certain criminal and medical requirements.


VISA ENTITLEMENTS

Non-academic or Vocational Student Visa provides great flexibility in allowing you to engage in various activities during your stay in the United States, including, travel throughout the country to all 50 states, attendance to festivals, conferences, conventions, sporting and musical events, and visits to world-renowned monuments, memorials and museums.

In addition, you may apply for a work permit to engage in on and off-campus employment while completing your studies.

An extension may be permitted under the Non-academic or Vocational Student Visa for up to three years for the total program.

Spouses and children of students are entitled to apply for a derivative visa and accompany the principal into the United States. Children of students may attend school through to grade 12, however spouses may not engage in study except for vocational or recreational courses. As well, spouses and children will not be permitted to work.
