WORK VISAS TO THE UNITED STATES

REGISTERED NURSE VISA TO THE UNITED STATES

Registered nurses living abroad may enter the United States to provide healthcare services in areas designated by the Department of Health and Human Services to be nurse-shortage areas.

The applicant must be licensed as a registered nurse in the applicant’s home country or have received nursing education at an accredited US institution. The applicant must also pass examinations set by the US State of intended employment. In addition, they must comply with all State licensing requirements for registered nurses following their entry.

REGISTERED NURSE VISA (H1-C) BASIC REQUIREMENTS

The Registered Nurse Visa requires applicants to obtain a visa to work and live if the purpose of their stay is for employment at a US healthcare facility in an area of need. To qualify for the Registered Nurse Visa, applicants must be licensed to practice professional nursing in their home country. Also, applicants must obtain licensing in their respective US State prior to the start of their employment or obtain a temporary license.

Applicants may also be required to meet certain health and character requirements as well as, in some instances, English requirements.

REGISTERED NURSE VISA (H1-C) ENTITLEMENTS

Registered Nurse Visas are granted for an initial period of a 3-year stay in the United States. No further extensions are possible under this category. However, applicants can extend their stay by applying for another visa or certain applicants can be eligible for permanent residence through employment.

Spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21 who wish to accompany or join the visa holder in the United States may obtain the relevant derivative visa. This will allow spouses and children to study in private or public schools in the United States without the need to obtain a Study Visa.
