FAMILY VISAS TO THE UNITED STATES
THE PARENT (FAMILY) VISA TO THE UNITED STATES
U.S. citizens may sponsor their mother, father, step parent or adoptive parent living abroad or already residing in the United States to live and work in the U.S. on a permanent basis.
THE PARENT (FAMILY) VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. Citizens and at least 21 years of age. Lawful Permanent Residents may not sponsor their parents to live in the U.S. As well, the United States requires applicants to submit the relevant petition forms, show proof of relation to parent(s) and proof of sufficient funds. If you were not born in the United States, you are required to also provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Please note that if you have been legally adopted, you may not petition for your birth parent.
THE PARENT (FAMILY) VISA ENTITLEMENTS
The Parent (Family) Visa provides you with the opportunity to reunite with your parents and bring them to the United States to live! As a Permanent Resident, your parents will have most of the rights of a United States Citizen, with few exceptions, including the right to live permanently in the United States, the right to be employed in the United States in any legal work, the right to study and the right to vote in some local elections. Your parents will also be able to travel freely among the 50 states and travel to and from the United States. As well, once eligible, your parent(s) can apply become to a U.S. citizen.
