UK university and college students have expressed high satisfaction with their course, according to this year's National Student Survey.

The survey, which was carried out by the polling company Ipsos Mori revealed that 83 percent of students in the UK expressed satisfaction with their course. There were 9 percent of attendants dissatisfying and 8 percent neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.

There were about 265,000 final-year students responding to the survey this year, from 154 higher education institutions and 99 further education colleges across the UK.

In all seven categories covered by the survey, satisfaction has either improved since 2010 or stayed the same.

In particular, students felt that staff were doing a good job: 84 percent of students were satisfied with the quality of teaching on their courses (up 1 percent on last year) and 77 percent were satisfied with the academic support they received (up 2 percent) when studying in the UK.

Mr David Willetts, Minister for Universities, said the survey found out the reason why both UK Citizens and foreign students chose to study in the country.

Dominic Scott, the Chief Executive of the UK Council for International Student Affairs, said that despite the small statistical changes, the results were broadly positive. Both international students in UK and their parents, therefore, would be reassured to know that the UK and its individual institutions track their performances very closely to help deliver best value.

"Numbers coming to the UK have increased, quite significantly, in recent years as the quality of the experience has continued to improve", he said. However, he also mentioned that there was a fear related to some recent changes to the UK Tier 4 student visa category despite these good results.
