On the 21 October 2009, the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) had set forth proposals for a revised work visa occupational list to include healthcare and engineering professionals, the continued inclusion of chefs, ballet dancers, work riders, veterinary surgeons, sheep shearers as well as secondary teachers in maths and science. It also recommended the addition of special needs teachers and skilled meat boners and trimmers and the removal of ship and hovercraft officers.

The Government has now approved the MAC’s recommendations. The list will come in to law on the 14 December 2009 and will apply to the all certificates of sponsorship that are assigned on or after this date.
