UK IMMIGRATION NEWS
Visa Application Concession for A-level StudentsWednesday, 10 June 2009 In welcome news for students intending on completing their secondary school education in the UK, the UK Border Agency ('UKBA') has agreed to extend their existing concessional arrangements for prospective A-level students, to include those completing other A-level equivalent courses, such as Higher Diplomas. Under concessional arrangements agreed for this year only, the UKBA permitted overseas-based students wishing to complete A-levels in the UK to lodge a visa application based on condition offers only from their intended education provider. This was initiated in recognition of the fact that GCSE results are not generally released until the end of August. With some courses commencing in early September, many students faced unrealistic timeframes in which to process their visa application and travel to the UK. Under these new arrangements, students for all A-level equivalent courses will now be able to lodge visa applications in expectation of their GCSE results, with the final visa being granted upon receipt of these results and an unconditional offer from their education provider.
