Overseas doctors or dentists who wish to work in the United Kingdom may undertake periods of clinical attachments or dental observation posts in order to familiarise themselves with UK working practices. Applicants who are granted residence under this category of visa are allowed to enter in the UK for a maximum of six (6) months. These clinical attachments and dental observation posts are unpaid and involve observation only and not treatment of patients.
At the end of the six (6) month period, applicants will be expected to leave the UK unless they are granted leave to remain as:
- a postgraduate doctor or dentist; or
- a work permit holder for employment as a doctor or dentist.
