The Training and Work Experience Scheme (TWES) provides an excellent opportunity to undertake an attachment with a UK company for the purpose of Training or Work Experience as long as you intend to return to your home country to put your newly found skills into practice.

The purpose of the TWES is to allow applicants to gain skills in the UK which can be beneficial in their home country. In addition, UK companies with branch offices overseas can benefit by training their overseas staff in the UK or international companies can set up training centres within the UK.

TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME (TWES) VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Applying for the TWES is a two stage process. The first stage is to obtain the TWES Permit itself and the second is to apply for Entry Clearance to the UK.

In order to be granted a TWES Visa the employer must be a UK based company with a post-additional to normal staffing requirements. The training or work experience must be a minimum of 30 hours per week and the applicant must already hold a suitable qualification to allow them to undertake the work experience or training and they must speak English.

TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME (TWES) VISA ENTITLEMENTS

Permits for work experience are issued for an initial 12 months (or for a shorter period) and can be extended for a total of 24 months. One change of employer is permitted.

Dependants such as children under the age of 18 and partners can accompany you on your application. They can also work without any restrictions or gaining any further permission from the Home Office.
