All EEA and Swiss nationals are free to enter and live in the United Kingdom without the need to apply for permission from the UK Border agency. Nationals of countries that joined the European Union (EU) in 2004 may need to register when starting work. Nationals of Bulgaria or Romania may need to apply for permission before starting to work.

This EEA Association Agreement refers to different categories under which a national of Bulgaria or Romania can seek permission to work in the UK . They are Accession worker card, Registration Certificate and Highly Skilled People.

EEA ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT BASIC REQUIREMENTS

The basic requirements to seek permission before a Bulgarian or Romanian national can start working can be divided into Accession worker card, Registration Certificate and Highly Skilled People.

Accession worker card: The Accession worker card can be obtained when you have a job offer in certain categories of employment such as: airport based operational ground staff of an overseas airline, au pair placements, domestic workers in a private household etc.

Registration certificate: This certificate applies to people who are in the UK as a self employed person, a student or a self sufficient person.

Highly skilled people: To qualify as a highly skilled person you must score enough points under the points assessment used for the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. Points are awarded based on your age, qualifications, previous earnings and UK past experience.

EEA ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT VISA ENTITLEMENTS

Applicants who are granted residence under this category are allowed to live and work in the UK . Eligible dependants may also qualify to be included and upon obtaining the visa, they may also work or study without any restrictions.
