BARRISTERS & SOLICITORS BASIC REQUIREMENTS
The basic requirement for a barrister and a solicitor visa are:
- Individuals must have relevant admission in the General Council of the Bar or Law Society ( England and Wales , Scotland or Northern Ireland ); and either
- Have sufficient funds to meet a share of the cost of renting chambers and paying staff salaries, if they are a Barrister; or
- Have funds to set up a new practice or enter into partnership with an existing practice from which they will receive a share of the profits, if they are a Solicitor.
The requirements for investment and job creation do not apply for people setting up in business within the legal profession in the UK .
BARRISTERS & SOLICITORS VISA ENTITLEMENTS
Applicants who are granted residence under the Barristers & Solicitors visa are allowed to live and work in the UK for an initial period of two (2) years with the ability to apply for further stay and Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) upon meeting additional requirements. Successful candidates will have free access to public schools, and subsidised tertiary education for their dependants. Eligible dependants may also qualify to be included and upon obtaining the visa, may also work or study without any restrictions.
ILR entitles individuals to permanent residency in as well as visa-free travel to and from the UK . ILR holders may also be able to sponsor their non-British relatives into the UK and may also ultimately be eligible to apply for British citizenship.
