WORKING HOLIDAY VISA

The Working Holiday Visa provides individuals aged between 18 to 30 years (inclusive), from selected countries, a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel around New Zealand and undertake short-term employment which will help pay for their travels.

NEW ZEALAND WORKING HOLIDAY VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

In order to qualify for a Working Holiday Visa, applicants must be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the date they apply and must hold a valid passport for the country scheme they apply under. Applicants must primarily be intending to have a holiday and work must only be a secondary objective.

Applicants are also required to have sufficient funds to maintain themselves during their stay, meet health and character requirements, have made travel arrangements to leave New Zealand when their visa expires (or have sufficient funds to purchase a ticket). There are also some country-specific requirements and conditions that they will be required to meet.

ELIGIBLE WORKING HOLIDAY COUNTRIES

Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Uruguay.

NEW ZEALAND WORKING HOLIDAY VISA ENTITLEMENTS

The Working Holiday visa/permit is generally valid for 12 months (23 months for individuals from the United Kingdom) from the date you enter New Zealand. Applicants will also be provided with a multiple entry visa which allows applicants to travel to and from New Zealand an unlimited number of times before their visa expires.

Visa holders are not permitted to take permanent work and applicants from most countries are only allowed to work for a maximum of 3 months with any employer.

Some visa holders may be eligible to extend their visa under the Working Holidaymaker Extension Permit, however, this depends on the type of work they have completed while in New Zealand.
