NEW ZEALAND PARENT VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for residence under the Family – Parent category, applicants must meet requirements set by Immigration New Zealand. These include meeting health and good character requirements.
Applicants must meet the ‘centre of gravity’ requirement, and be sponsored by an eligible New Zealand (or Australian) citizen or resident child. ‘Centre of gravity’ which means that most children reside in New Zealand or another country other than the applicant’s country of residence.
Eligible sponsors must have been a New Zealand or Australian citizen or permanent resident for at least 3 years.
If a spouse or partner is included in the residence application, applicants must meet partnership requirements, including showing that they are in a genuine and stable relationship.
NEW ZEALAND PARENT VISA ENTITLEMENTS
As a holder of permanent residence, you the flexibility to settle anywhere in New Zealand indefinitely.
When you are granted permanent residence, a visa and/or permit labels (depending on whether you are outside or inside of New Zealand at the time your application is approved) are placed in your passport as proof of your permanent residency. A returning resident’s visa will also be issued, which will allow you to travel in and out of New Zealand for up to two years. After two years you can apply for and be granted an Indefinite Returning Resident’s Visa (RRV), if you meet the relevant minimum residency requirements.
Permanent residence in New Zealand gives you (and your family) free access to public schools, subsidised tertiary education and other support, such as student loans, and subsidised public health services. You will also have the ability to apply for citizenship once to satisfy the relevant residency requirements.
Another important benefit of residency is that you may become eligible to sponsor close family members to New Zealand in future.
