WORK VISAS TO NEW ZEALAND

OTHER SPECIAL WORK VISA TO NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand's special work policy allows the crew of foreign chartered fishing vessels, Ministers of Religion, missionaries and members of religious orders to work temporarily in New Zealand.

NEW ZEALAND SPECIAL WORK VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

To obtain a work visa under one of these special work policies, applicants must meet the basic requirements set by Immigration New Zealand. These include meeting health and good character criteria.

Ministers of Religion, missionaries and members of religious orders must belong to a recognised religion or denomination. Applicants applying for a work visa for a short term engagement (up to 12 months) must have sufficient income or a guarantee of accommodation and maintenance from a New Zealand host organisation. Long-term applicants (up to 3 years) must be sponsored by an organisation that guarantees their accommodation, maintenance and repatriation.

Work visa and permit applications for the crew of foreign fishing vessels should be initiated by a Foreign Charter Partner (FCP) or their agent(s), who will need to obtain approval-in-principle (AIP) from Immigration New Zealand to recruit overseas workers. Crew members must have suitable qualifications and training to undertake the work specified in the AIP.

NEW ZEALAND SPECIAL WORK VISA ENTITLEMENTS

Approved Ministers of Religion, missionaries and members of religious orders on a short-term engagement may be issued with a work visa allowing for a maximum stay of 12 months to undertake activities such as teaching religious studies or conducting lectures or seminars. Approved long-term applicants may be issued with a visa allowing them to undertake religious work in New Zealand for a maximum stay of 3 years.

Approved crew of foreign fishing vessels may be granted a work permit, entitling them to work in New Zealand's economic zone on an approved fishing vessel for up to 2 years.
