New Zealand most desirable place to visit

The recently released 2008 Country Brand Index has rated New Zealand number one for "authenticity", "natural beauty" and "friendly locals", and is the top country most people would like to visit or return to.

The Country Brand Index, issued by global brand consultancy FutureBrand, is based on a survey of almost 2,700 international travellers. The index ranks countries across 30 categories, including standard of living, value for money and ease of travel. The Country Brand survey is now in its fourth year. The results of the survey provide indications of a country’s qualities and reputation.

According to the report, "New Zealand appears dedicated to maintaining its true and unique essence" making it number one for authenticity. In terms of natural beauty, "New Zealand’s scenery is diverse and breathtaking". Its welcoming and hospitable people also helps make it an attractive destination for visitors.

New Zealand comes second only to Australia as the country most would like to live in.

Other categories where New Zealand rated highly were:

• Outdoor activities and sports – 2nd place for best conditions, terrain and opportunities for land and water sports;
• Political freedom – 2nd place;
• Extend a business trip – 2nd place for the country where travellers want to extend business travel into personal vacation;
• Rest and relaxation – 3rd place for the country offering the ideal array of tranquil and rejuvenating activities; and
• Safety – 3rd place for the country considered most stable and secure.

New Zealand ranks 7th place overall within the 2008 Country Brand Index.
