New Zealand has a unique mix of nationalities and traditions. Immigration is important to New Zealand and migrants are recognised as making a substantial contribution to the country's economy and cultural diversity. Around 45,000 to 50,000 places are available under the government's New Zealand Residence Programme for the 2008/09 financial year.
