STUDENT VISA TO NEW ZEALAND
VOCATIONAL TRAINEE STUDENT VISA TO NEW ZEALAND
Vocational Trainees are one of the main groups of foreign students in New Zealand. Only Air New Zealand trainees, nautical students, religious trainees, and NZAID Short Term Training Award (STTA) trainees may be eligible for a student visa as a vocational trainee.
NEW ZEALAND VOCATIONAL TRAINEE STUDENT VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
To obtain a student visa as a vocational trainee, applicants must meet the basic health and good character requirements for temporary entry, and:
Air New Zealand trainees must provide a letter of support and guarantee from Air New Zealand confirming their placement, maintenance, accommodation and outward travel. They do not need to provide evidence of paying their course fees.
Nautical students must have an offer of placement at Manukau Polytechnic, and provide a letter from their shipping company that guarantees maintenance and outwards travel following the end of their course. Applicants also need to provide evidence that course fees have been paid or that they are exempt from having to pay them.
Religious trainees must have confirmation of a place at the College of St John the Evangelist; Knox College or Holy Cross Seminary and a guarantee of accommodation, maintenance and outward travel from a sponsoring church.
NZAID STTA trainees must have evidence of an STTA scheme award and outward travel if required.
NEW ZEALAND VOCATIONAL TRAINEE STUDENT VISA ENTITLEMENTS
Holders of a student visa and/or permit as a vocational trainee are entitled to train at a specified education provider for the length of time specified on the visa. Usually, the student permit will be valid for the period required to complete the vocational training. Approved STTA scheme applicants may be allowed a stay up to a maximum of 12 months.
All student visas are endorsed as 'multiple entry' so that the holder may travel out of and return to New Zealand on multiple occasions during the life of the visa.
Student permit holders may not undertake employment unless their permit is endorsed with conditions allowing up to 20 hours of work a week or they have obtained a variation of conditions.
