STUDENT AND TRAINEE WORK VISA TO NEW ZEALAND

The Student and Trainee work visa policy is for overseas students, dental or medical trainees and apprentice jockeys who wish to obtain work experience in New Zealand to complete their study or training.

This work visa policy aims to encourage the sharing of skills and experience between countries, and provides applicants with exposure to New Zealand.

NEW ZEALAND STUDENT OR TRAINEE WORK VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

To obtain a Student or Trainee work visa and/or permit, applicants must meet the basic criteria set by Immigration New Zealand. These include meeting health and good character criteria. The other basic requirements depend on the category of students or trainees:

Students fulfilling course requirements - must provide evidence of support from their educational institution and evidence of an offer of work from a New Zealand education institution or employer.

Dental or Medical Trainees - must be appropriately qualified and experienced; not hold a New Zealand student or visitor permit; and have a letter of acceptance from a New Zealand hospital offering practical training work.

Apprentice Jockeys - must have an offer from a New Zealand trainer to undertake an apprenticeship in New Zealand; provide a written guarantee from the New Zealand Racing Conference that accommodation and living costs will be met; and have a written guarantee from the trainer that they will meet the cost of travel back to the apprentice's home country, if necessary, if the apprenticeship is not completed.

NEW ZEALAND STUDENT OR TRAINEE WORK VISA ENTITLEMENTS

Applicants approved a Student and Trainee work visa will be entitled to work in the position related to their training for the specified employer, for the duration stated on their permit. Work permits will be granted for up to a maximum of 6 months for medical and dental trainees and overseas students.
