FAMILY VISAS TO NEW ZEALAND
PARTNER AND DEPENDANTS VISITOR'S VISA TO NEW ZEALAND
Partners and dependent children of New Zealand (or Australian) citizens or residents, and work or student visa/permit holders are classed as special categories of visitors under the visitor's visa policy.
NEW ZEALAND PARTNER AND DEPENDANTS VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
To obtain a Partner or Dependants visitor's visa, applicants need to be sponsored and/or supported by a spouse/partner or parent who holds New Zealand (or Australian) citizenship or permanent residence, or a temporary permit such as a student or work permit.
Applicants must meet the basic health and good character criteria, and be genuine visitors. That is, they do not intend to work or undertake study (unless the course is less than 3 months in duration).
Other requirements depend on your partner's or parent's immigration status:
- Dependent children of New Zealand citizens or residents travelling alone, or with one parent, may need to provide evidence that they have the right to leave their home country.
- Partners of New Zealand citizens or residents must show that they are in a genuine and stable relationship with their New Zealand partner.
- Partners or dependent children of student or work visa/permit holders must provide proof of arrangements to leave New Zealand at the end of their visa, and have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay.
NEW ZEALAND PARTNER AND DEPENDENTS VISA ENTITLEMENTS
Approved partners and dependants may be issued with a visitor's visa and/or permit, which allows the holder to travel to and stay in New Zealand for a specified duration. The maximum length of stay allowed will depend on the immigration status of your partner or parent:
- Dependent children of New Zealand citizens and resident may be given a visitor's visa authorising a stay of up to 2 years.
- Partners of New Zealand citizens and residents may be given a visitor's visa authorising a stay of up to 2 years.
- Partners and dependents of student or work visa/permit holders may be given a visitor's visa authorising a stay for the same duration as their partner or parent.
Holders of a visitor's visa cannot work, but may undertake a course of study that is less than 3 months long.
