Persons who immigrate to Canada under this provincial nominee visa have the skills, education and work experience needed to make an immediate economic contribution to Alberta. They are ready to establish themselves successfully as permanent residents in Canada.

The unique Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program - Self Employed Farmer stream is a provincial nominee program that is designed to assist farmers with skills and resources to develop growth within the farming business in prosperous Alberta. This visa favours applicants who intend to immigrate to Alberta and can purchase and manage a farming business in Alberta.


ALBERTA SELF-EMPLOYED VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Under this program, Alberta can nominate farm owner/operators who intend to immigrate, purchase and manage a farming business in Alberta. The farm owner/operator category is restricted to primary agriculture enterprises. Priority will be given to applicants purchasing farming enterprises in Alberta's agri-food industry. Applicants must outline their investment intentions through their proposed business plans.

Eligible candidates must provide:

  • A confirmation of proven farm management skills through the following documents: financial documentation of their existing farm enterprise, documentation of their education, training and work experience, proposed business plan for the farming enterprise being considered in Alberta and the Canadian financial institution willing to finance the proposed farming enterprise;
  • A commitment to invest a minimum of $500,000 CDN in a farming enterprise in Alberta;
  • Evidence of a minimum net worth of $500,000 CDN;
  • Sufficient financial resources to develop a sustainable farming operation.

Applicants must also demonstrate their financial capability and specific interests in investing in a farming enterprise in Alberta. Candidates nominated will be required to satisfy basic visa requirements such as health and character before an immigration visa is issued.
