The Information Technology Work Visa allows the fast-track processing of work Visa applications for skilled professionals in the software industry seeking to gain Canadian work experience on a temporary basis.

In response to the need to fill critical labour shortages for skilled workers in the software industry, Canada has introduced this pilot project to simplify and facilitate the processing and entry of information technology workers in high demand occupations in the software industry.

The Information Technology Work Visa allows applicants with the required education and experience in the specified products or technologies applying for specific jobs to apply under this category. You must be able to communicate in English or French, and meet several additional visa requirements.

IT PILOT PROJECT WORK VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

In order to apply for the Information Technology Work Visa, you will need to have a job offer in a specific software occupation listed in demand. You must then provide confirmation of possessing the required education and experience in the specified products or technologies required for the occupation. You must also show proficiency for working in English and/or French work environment.


IT PILOT PROJECT WORK VISA ENTITLEMENTS

Once your Information Technology Work Visa has been issued, you will be allowed to live and work in Canada for a specified period of time, generally between 6 months and 2 years. While dependent to your specific job offer, it may be possible to extend your Work Visa if you wish to continue working in Canada.

Although this Work Visa is meant for foreign workers who only wish to work in Canada temporarily seeking to gain Canadian experience, you may be able to claim additional points towards an application for permanent residence. In addition, you will have gained valuable Canadian work experience which will also benefit your application for permanent residence.

While in Canada on a work Visa, it may also be possible to have your permanent residence application processed in tandem, which could allow you to stay in Canada once your application has been approved.
