In order to visit Canada temporarily, citizens of some certain countries are required to apply for a visitor visa to Canada. The maximum validity period of a multiple - entry visa is currently five years.

When more and more countries are issuing passports with validity dates of 10 years, the Citizenship and Immigration Canada is now also changing its policy in light of this.

Accordingly, visitors applying for multiple-entry visas may now be issued visas to the maximum validity of their 10-year passports.

To be qualified, applicants must meet some following requirements:

  • apply for multiple visas
  • have a passport that is valid for 10 years
  • qualify as a low- risk case

The Canadian government recommends that such types of visas be issued to parents and grandparents with sponsorships in process and business visitors.

According to Immigration Minister Jason Kenny, more applications and higher expectations meant that immigration to Canada need a more responsive and flexible processing system.

"To achieve that, the department is providing applicants and staff with the right tools to deliver on those expectations." he said.
