There is no plan in place that will see the lifting of the visa requirements for citizens of the Czech Republic looking to visit Canada.

The new Canadian ambassador to the Czech Republic, Valerie Raymond says that Citizenship and Immigration Canada "remains committed" to reinstating visa-free travel for Czech's.

"At the moment, since the imposition of the visa in mid-July we have had more than 3,000 applications from Czech nationals to visit Canada and more than 99 per cent acceptance," she told the Czech News Agency. "So we continue to welcome Czech travellers to Canada. We will continue to facilitate the visa process so that it is as smooth and simple as possible for the time being."

Any Czech citizens looking to visit Canada may apply for a tourist visa at the Canadian Embassy in Prague or applications can be submitted to the embassy in Vienna either in person, by mail, couriers or through their travel agent.

The new visa restrictions were put in place earlier in the summer of 2009 as a response to the growing number of refugee claims being made by Czech Romanies who complained of discrimination in their native Czech Republic.
