Honours for volunteers who help new immigrants in CanadaThursday, 8 October 2009 The Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean has given honours to a New Brunswick woman, Suzanne Dugas, who has been assisting newcomers to Canada for many years. Ms. Dugan has been inviting new immigrant families into her home to help them adapt to Canada, the new climate and new way of life. It is for this that the Governor General has bestowed the Caring Canadian Award to this gracious host. The Caring Canadian Award is an award given to honour Canadian's who make significant contributions or provide assistance to those in their communities on an unpaid voluntary basis. "I was very surprised, pleasantly surprised. When you do things you don't do them with the idea that you're going to receive something. It's very nice to be recognized for the things that I've done," said Dugas.
