Canada's population grows in spite of economic uncertaintyThursday, 29 January 2009 Statistics show that Canada's population grew by almost 0.4% which represents the highest growth rate per quarter since 1990. Western Canada continues to grow faster than other regions in the country. The increase is largely due to the influx of non-permanent residents in Canada who have taken advantage of various Provincial Nominee Programs among other opportunities. The province of Alberta continues to outpace all other provinces in Canada in terms of quarterly population growth with a rate of 0.72 percent, which is roughly twice the national rate. In Atlantic Canada, Prince Edward Island continues to lead the pack in terms of population growth rate registering a quarterly growth rate of 0.67 percent.
