CANADIAN IMMIGRATION NEWS
Canada has rescinded its visas for Croatian citizensWednesday, 1 April 2009 The Canadian immigration minister, Jason Kenney, on March 29th, 2009 officially announced that Canada has rescinded its visas for Croatian citizens. With the rescinding of visas, Croatian citizens will now be able to visit Canada for up to six months. This will make it easier for Croatians to visit friends and relatives in Canada, see Canada's beauties and promote the boosting of trade ties between our two countries, said Minister Kenney. The rescinding of visas, which came into effect immediately, will facilitate the immigrants' relatives to visit Canada and will have a positive effect on strengthening business and trade cooperation, investments, cultural and scientific exchange and an increase of tourist visits between the two countries. Representatives of the Croatian community in Canada, which numbers some 130,000 members, hailed the rescinding of visas as "great success" and proof of Croatian-Canadian relations, as well as having their requests met. Asked about the effect of the rescinding of visas on the Canadian immigration policy towards Croatian citizens, Kenney said that it will not have a direct immigration affect and the same procedure will be maintained for Croatian citizens. But he stressed that Canada has the world's largest immigration programme and added that he encouraged Croatian citizens who want to work in Canada to come and make Canada their permanent home. "Canadians are very open-minded, without prejudice. If you work with then persistently, if you make it possible to know Croatia, they become friends. Canada is a country which does not chance its polities just like that. It takes its time to recognise you and once it accepts you, then you are its partner and friend for keeps." said Croatian Ambassador to Canada, Vesela Mrdjen Kovac.
