Now is the time to apply for migration to Canada!Friday, 14 March 2008 In an attempt to trim the backlog of the more than 900,000 people who have already applied to enter Canada, the Canadian government is set to announce a dramatic reduction in the number of new immigration applications it accepts. What it comes down to, is that the new system, which is intended to bring the best and brightest to Canada, will place a quota on the number of new applicants that are accepted each year, so the time to start your application process is now. Diane Finley, Canada’s Immigration Minister will put forth an amendment to Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act today. The amendment will limit the number of new applications accepted and processed annually by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The lengthy processing time currently experienced by Canadian Visa applicants reflects the current policy’s statute of accepting every application that enters the system. The amendment is aimed at decreasing the processing time for new applicants. A source indicates that the number of new immigrants admitted to Canada will inevitably increase considerably over the next few years in spite of any attempt to reduce the number of applications. The potential amendment is considered a step towards a “just in time” immigration system which essentially means that the average waiting time for visa processing will be one year. This is part of the new Canadian budget which allocated an estimated $22 million dollars towards a modernized immigration system.
