DO I QUALIFY FOR A CANADIAN STUDENT VISA TO CANADA?
EXCHANGE STUDENT VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
The Canadian Student Visa allows foreign students to take advantage of Canada’s world-class education system. If you wish to study in Canada for 6 months or more, you will generally need to apply for a Student Visa.
The specific requirements for the Student Visa will vary depending on your level of study, your educational background, and your country of citizenship. Generally, you will need acceptance to a specified exchange program, acceptance to a university, college or other recognized institution in Canada, a valid passport or travel document, proof of the financial support which you will be provided if you have been selected for a scholarship, fellowship or other award towards the cost of the stay and studies in Canada.
EXCHANGE STUDENT VISA ENTITLEMENTS
Foreign Students in Canada are not limited to life in a classroom. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the employment opportunities that can be earned with a Canadian post-secondary education. Foreign Students are often entitled to apply for scholarship to Canadian universities and colleges. Many educational institutions offer awards, scholarships, and bursaries to international students on a competitive basis. Information on financial awards can be obtained directly from the institution itself.
Foreign students are eligible to work on-campus throughout the school year. This allows students to earn money towards tuition, explore Canada, and gain valuable Canadian work experience. Once a foreign student has lived in Canada for at least 6 months, most are eligible to apply for employment off-campus. This will allow students to work up to 20 hours a week off-campus during the school year and full-time during school holidays.
In most cases, foreign students are entitled to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, once they complete their course of study. The Post-Graduation Work Permit enables graduates to remain in Canada and gain full time work experience for up to two years in some cases.
While in Canada on a work Visa, it may also be possible to extend your stay or have your permanent residence application processed in tandem, which could allow you to stay in Canada once your application has been approved.
