RESUMPTION OF CITIZENSHIP

Canadian Citizenship is one the most sought after in the world. Resumption of citizenship allows applicants who were previously Canadian citizens the rare right to regain their entitlement to Canadian citizenship.

RESUMPTION OF CITIZENSHIP BASIC REQUIREMENTS

For Resumption of Citizenship, applicants must have previously been a Canadian citizen, have since become a permanent resident of Canada after they lost their Canadian citizenship. In addition, they must have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for at least one year immediately before they submit their application. Additional visa requirements also apply.

An applicant who is granted citizenship through resumption will be entitled to rights and freedoms including legal rights, equality rights, mobility rights, aboriginal peoples' rights, freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the right to peaceful assembly. They will also have to obey Canada's laws, express their opinions freely while respecting the rights and freedoms of others, help others in the community, care for and protect our heritage and environment, and eliminate discrimination and injustice. Another of the privileges is the right to vote, and have a say in the political leadership in Canada.
