SKILLED SPONSORED FAMILY RELATIVE VISA TO AUSTRALIA
The Skilled Sponsored Family Relative Visa is designed to target individuals who have skills or an outstanding ability that is needed by the Australian economy. This is a provisional visa.
Applicants under this category can rely on sponsorship from eligible family relatives in designated areas of Australia. Applicants are assessed against their ability to satisfy the basic visa criteria and are required to satisfy a pass mark of 100 points.
Successful applicants will obtain a temporary 3 year Visa. It is possible to qualify for permanent residence after living for two years and working full time for a total of 12 months in a designated area in the same state/territory as the sponsor.

AUSTRALIAN SKILLED SPONSORED FAMILY RELATIVE VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS
In order to satisfy labour market shortages, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has set specific basic requirements for people who are interested in applying under the Skilled Migration Stream.
To qualify for skilled migration, you (or your partner) must be able to satisfy the basic Visa requirements and have a suitable relative living in a designated area of Australia who is able to sponsor you. The basic Visa criteria require you to meet specific age requirements, English language ability, minimum qualifications level, selection of a nominated occupation and recent work experience.
To sponsor under this category, your relative must be one of the following:
- an Australian citizen
- an Australian permanent resident
- an Eligible New Zealand citizen.
You or your spouse must be related to your sponsor as one of the following:
- a non-dependent child – including a natural, adoptive or step-child
- a parent – including adoptive or step-parent
- a brother or sister – including adoptive or step-siblings
- a niece or nephew – including adoptive or step-niece or nephew
- an aunt or uncle – including adoptive or step-aunt or uncle
- a first cousin
- a grandchild.
Your relative must have lived in designated area for at least 12 months prior to you lodging your Visa application. As a general guide, Australia's designated areas include:
- Australian Capitol Territory
- South Australia
- Northern Territory
- Tasmania
- Victoria
- Queensland – except Brisbane
- New South Wales – except Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong
- Western Australia – except Perth.
AUSTRALIAN SKILLED SPONSORED FAMILY RELATIVE VISA ENTITLEMENTS
This visa type results in a temporary Visa which entitles you to live and work in a designated area of Australia, in the same state or territory as your sponsor, for up to three years. Accompanying family members can also work and study, but must do so in an eligible designated area.
Upon satisfying certain residence and work requirements, you may qualify for permanent residence. This second stage will also require sponsorship from your relative.
