More Immigration Agents Lose Access to Apply For E-Visas to AustraliaMonday, 26 October 2009 In early October, 200 Immigration Agents were restricted from submitting e-Visa applications electronically for student visas. Now a further 150 agents have had the same restriction applied to them. Investigations around the abuse of student visas to Australia have uncovered a "people-smuggling operation" where falsified bank loan statements for up to $90,000 are being used to provide "evidence" that the prospective student has the funds to support themselves while studying in Australia. The Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC) have confirmed that over 500 Indian applicants have had their visa applications refused due to false financial documents, including loan statements in the July to September period of 2009. The "crack-down" on immigration agents that abuse Australia's immigration system is part of a recent push by the Government to clean up Australia's $16 billion International Education industry.
