AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION NEWS
Adelaide needs skilled migrants on Australian Work VisasThursday, 8 October 2009 South Australia relies heavily on migrant workers to help grow, and to meet labour demands, but Business Leaders are concerned that not enough migrants are settling in the state. A study from PKF and Access Economics shows that of the 18,500 people who moved to South Australia in 2008, 16,000 were from overseas. This equates to approximately 86.5% of the new residents coming from overseas. Business leaders in South Australia are concerned that many immigrants who arrive in Adelaide later choose to move to larger Australian cities such as Melbourne and Sydney, leaving South Australia short on skills. Skilled migrants make a large contribution to Australia's economy, according to PKF's national chairman of enterprise advisers, Chris Allen. "Because Australia's relatively highly skilled migrants earn relatively high incomes, these people go on to spend their income, and in spending, they create demand for more workers," he said. "Put simply, more people equal more customers, and therefore more jobs."
