Student Visas - Australia Suspends 200 Visa Agents

Tuesday, 6 October 2009

The Australian Government has suspended almost 200 immigration agents from lodging student visa applications. Suspensions have been issued due to evidence of fraud, or poor visa approval rates.

The suspensions come as a result of evidence that many immigration agents & their clients were abusing the Australian student visa program to gain permanent residency to Australia. Since then, student visa regulations have been revised forcing international students to return to their home-country before applying for a work visa to Australia.

Of the 200 agents suspended, 51 (approximately 25%) were based in India. There are however approximately 500 agents still practicing around the world who may not meet the Governments expectations.
