Britons Applying for Working Holiday Visa to AustraliaTuesday, 18 November 2008 More and more young Britons are opting to come to Australia on the Working Holiday visa scheme proposed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). The working holiday visa allows people aged between 18-30 years old to come and travel and work in Australia for up to a year, with the possibility of extending their visa while they are in Australia. Recent figures show that the amount of people who applied for working holiday visas between July and September 2008 has increased by 21% from the same time last year. According to figures, DIAC granted 11,203 working holiday visas between the three month period this year, compared to 9,250 visas granted during July to September last year. General Manager for Tourism Australia in the UK and Europe, Rodney Harrex, states: "With the current economic situation in the UK, many young school leavers and graduates may be struggling to find work and are looking for other opportunities." "Australia has a lot to offer young British travellers who are looking to live the Aussie lifestyle and gain valuable work experience overseas."
