Manages the construction of dwellings and other buildings.
Skill Level:
The entry requirement for this occupation is a bachelor degree
or higher qualification. In
most instances relevant experience is required in addition to
the formal qualification. Registration or licensing is required.
Tasks Include:
- examines clients’ drawings and other specifications, prepares
and submits tenders, quotes and prices
- arranges submission of plans to local authorities
- builds under contract, or subcontracts specialised building
services
- coordinates labour resources, procurement and delivery of
materials, plant and equipment
- oversees the standard and progress of subcontractors’ work
- arranges building inspections by local authorities
- may arrange drawing-up of plans and specifications
- may consult with architects and associates about building
styles, methods and materials
- may estimate quantities of building materials
