U.S. citizens and Green Card Holders residing in the United States may sponsor their spouse residing abroad or already residing in the United States to live and work in the U.S. on a permanent basis.


THE PARTNER (FAMILY) VISA BASIC REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders and at least 18 years of age. As well, the United States requires applicants to submit the relevant petition forms and show proof of a legal marriage to his or her spouse. Common law spouses may also qualify depending on the laws of the home country. Please note that a temporary conditional residence status will be issued for spouses married less than 2 years.


THE PARTNER (FAMILY) VISA ENTITLEMENTS

The Partner (Family) Visa provides you with the opportunity to reunite with your spouse and bring them to the United States to live. As a Permanent Resident, your spouse will have most of the rights of a United States Citizen, with few exceptions, including the right to live permanently in the United States, the right to be employed in the United States in any legal work, the right to study and the right to vote in some local elections. Your spouse will also be able to travel freely among the 50 states and to and from the United States. As well, once eligible, your spouse can apply become to a U.S. citizen.
