New UK population forecasts to 2081
Tuesday, 23 October 2007
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has revealed its analysis of how the UK's population is expected to grow until the year 2081. Much of the projected growth is expected to come from immigration.
The number of people who migrate to the United Kingdom every year is approximately 190,000, a trend that the ONS expects to continue.
The study also takes into account expected increases in life expectancy for men and women, as well as projected birth and emigration rates.
In all, the UK's population is expected to expand by approximately 15,000 over the next 74 years, mostly due to immigration from abroad.
