UK IMMIGRATION NEWS
Unprecedented immigration to the UKFriday, 16 November 2007 Over half a million foreign nationals arrived in the UK to live over a single year. According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the UK welcomed 510,000 migrants who intended to stay for at least one year. The massive number does not include newcomers from the EU accession states, particularly Poland, as newcomers from these countries are not counted as normal migrants thanks to their EU settlement rights. According to the ONS, the UK saw a simultaneous exodus of roughly 400,000 people, 50% of whom are British. However, this was more than offset by immigration to the UK - equivalent to a city the size of Bristol in one year. Although the net effects of mass immigration to the UK are unexplored in some cases, the UK’s population would be in decline without immigration to shore up numbers. |
