Forthcoming Changes in UK Immigration CategoriesTuesday, 3 April 2007 In the past few weeks, the Home Office has announced key changes to several visa categories. Among the many changes, the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND), now to be referred to as Border and Immigration Agency, has introduced new fees for various visa categories to be implemented from 2nd of April 2007. Further, the Government has issued new application forms and introduced the requirement of passing the Life in the UK test for those applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain. More changes will continue to come in effect in the near future. For instance, the UK Government is planning the introduction of points based system for all immigration categories requiring UK companies and colleges to register and pay a joining in order to sponsor applicants. Changes to Immigration Rules will also come into effect on 19th April 2007 increasing the standard of English required to apply as a Minister of religion. In addition, from 1st May 2007, the Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme will change into INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE SCHEME which will enable international graduates who have been awarded a UK degree to work for 12 months permit free. |
