Following a consultation paper, the Home Office has now set out a new charging regime for immigration and nationality fees to come info effect in April.

The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Nationality, Mr. Liam Byrne explained that the decision to raise the fees was aimed at achieving a flexible charging model which will strike a balance between the services offered by the Home Office, overseas consulates as well as the entitlements attached to each of these visas.

Mr. Byrne stated that “we believe that those who benefit most from coming to the UK should contribute most to funding the end to end system”. He also mentioned that the increase in fees should be fair to those who use the system and also fair to the UK taxpayer, who will continue to support the immigration system that brings benefits and enrichment to UK.
