It has been reported that there is a shortage of staff for the elderly, mentally challenged and those with learning disability. This is due to the fact that thousands of nurses are due to retire within the next few years and by 2010 there will be a huge shortage of nurses in the UK.

Under current immigration rules, individuals who wish to study as nurses in the UK are allowed to enter but they will need to show that they have been accepted as a student for a course of study leading either to a qualification recognised by the Nursery and Midwifery Council (NMC) or to registration in the UK under the NMC.
