No reduction forecasted in number of permanent visas issued by Canada in 2009Thursday, 15 January 2009 Canadian Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Jason Kenny assures that there will not be a reduction in the number of permanent visas to Canada issued in 2009 in spite of recent changes to immigration requirements. Kenny implied that the unemployment rate in Canada is currently at 6.7 per cent, however the labour market remains strong, and capable of supporting the additional number of immigrants from across the world. Canada’s immigration policy is declared as subject to the constantly changing economic situation, and Kenny has cautioned that continued recession would require CIC to revisit their stance on the number of cases approved at CIC.
