Economic diversity encouraged in Cote-Nord region

Over 2 million dollars will be pumped into four projects that are designed to further encourage economic diversification in Canada’s Cote Nord region.

This announcement by the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Canadian Labour and Economic Development, and the Honourable John Baird, Minister of the Environment, has been received with great excitement by the job sector.

These new programs represent an initiative to generate $6.6 million, and will lead to the creation of some 100 Canadian jobs.

Not only will they encourage development in the region, but also, support the home-grown initiative.

"Today's global reality forces us to change the way we view regional development and focus on new strengths that can help Quebec's regions diversify their economic base and improve their chances of success," said Mr Blackburn.

"That is why the Government of Canada developed Advantage Canada, a strategic plan that favours support to projects that, like the ones we are announcing today, can help build greater prosperity for our country."

Furthermore, these new programs will aim to help establish the infrastructure that the community needs to accommodate the large cruise ships and encourage immigration and tourism to the region.
